Plateìa

Plateìa

Plateìa was created in Pisa between 2017 and 2018, during some evenings spent in Piazza dei Cavalieri; a meeting place of different cultural and musical genres.

Due to a casual succession of events, the various members discovered they had a common passion for the popular music of the South and, braving the rain and the cold, they began to play together constantly, taking the square as a point of reference: hence (from Greek) the name Plateìa.

Guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, violin, friscaletto, marranzano and tambourine alternate and respond to each other, recreating the harmonies and melodies of the past, together with voice and dance.

The group’s passion is the popular music of Southern Italy, but, on special occasions, they also explore other regions of Italy and the world (Irish, klezmer, gypsy and so on). Each of them plays at least two instruments, many of which are traditional instruments from the places where the music that they play comes from.

Guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, violin, friscaletto, marranzano, darabouka, accordion and tambourine alternate and respond to each other, recreating the harmonies and melodies of a time and a land that will have never seemed so close to you.
